CASual Fridays: Jest for the Pun of It!

If there is one thing I can do well when it comes to card making, it's puns. I love making cute, punny cards. I love making people chuckle, too. When I heard CASual Fridays had a challenge to make humorous cards using puns, I had no choice but to throw my hat in the ring (or should I say, my sombrero)!

I love this card. I am very pleased with the outcome. I've been eying the Paper Smooches Chubby Chums for a loooong time and I found it at my local scrapbook store. I had to start playing with it. I used the cow image. I dressed him in a sombrero and maracas, which I found on a free coloring  page site. I colored them with my Copics. The sombrero covered Señor Cows eyes, but fortunately, all my cartoon watching experience came in handy. I stamped him again, cut out his eyes and placed them on top of the sombrero, kind of like cartoons with floating eyes and eyebrows!!

I found piece of scrap paper that looked like a Mexican rug pattern, so I cut it into a trapezoid to give it perspective, and taped some kitchen string on the bottom to give it fringes. He is muy magnifico, no?

Random Acts of Kindness

I love random acts of kindness. I like to be the one giving out kindness and I like to be the recipient. On Friday, I was the recipient.

The day started off as usual, John walked Jack to school before heading off to work. (I walk him home from school.) On Friday, John returned with a white gift bag. "What's in the bag?" I asked. "This is for you. It's from Mr. Ted." Mr. Ted is a retired wildlife biologist who has decided to spend his golden years volunteering as the crossing guard in our neighborhood. He always greets us by name with a smile and a hello. We often engage in brief small talk about the weather or the kids.

"For me? I wonder what it is?" I opened the bag and inside was a GORGEOUS hand crafted wooden shaker box with a deep red velvet fabric lining the inside. (See picture at bottom of this post.) "Mr. Ted said he gives these to all the ladies," John said. We both marveled at the craftsmanship, not to mention the thoughtfulness and generosity. "Annette, you need to make him a special handmade thank you card."

Well, Ferb, I knew what I was going to do that day! I got out my craft goodies and thought about Mr. Ted, his woodworking hobby, his kindness. I came up with this card below:

Earthtones made the perfect color palette. They are masculine and they represent Mr. Ted's love for nature. The wood grained patterned paper represents his hobby and the mustache represent ... well, his mustache!! The Gratitude sentiment is a new release from Pink by Design. It's part of the Definitely Defined set. I love it.

And here is the box he made. Isn't it just beautiful!?! I love it, too! Thanks, Mr. Ted for making my day a little brighter!

Peepster Color Challenge

Hello friends. Today, I decided to enter a color challenge going on at the A. Jillian Vance Designs blog. The challenge is to use pink, aqua and white on a project. I decided to make a pretty card. The color palette just screamed "pretty" to me. The challenge ends at midnight EST tonight, so if you're planning to do some crafting, why not make a pretty card and enter the challenge. You could win an adorable stamps set.

For this card, I broke out one of my new toys, the L Letterpress by Lifestyle Crafts. I letterpressed the quatrefoil pattern with pink ink. I love the look and texture of letterpress. It just has a really elegance about it.

Here is the card recipe:
Paper: Bazzil, Lifestyle Crafts, Ink: Memento, Stampin' Up!
Stamps: A. Jillian Vance Designs, Tattered Angels, Inkadinkado
Embellishments: My Little Shoebox (rolled flowers), Pearl Pen, gems

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Trigger Target: Home Sweet Home

Hi folks! I'm entering the Moxie Fab Word Tuesday Trigger again. I love this challenge. This week's trigger is a cute little puffy house made of various fabrics.

I wanted to use the house, but I didn't want to copy the inspiration piece exactly. Instead, I took all the patterns in the inspiration house and created three different houses. The polka dotted fabrics, the wooden door, the green ric rac, the button and the ruler are all elements from the inspiration photo that I incorporated into my card.

The sentiment is one of Pink by Designs new releases. It's from the Definitely Defined set. When I first created the card, I wasn't sure what sentiment I was going to use. I started looking through all the new goodies I received as a recent design team member for Pink by Design. The family sentiment fit the image perfectly! Yay!!

Thanks for looking. Oh, and if you want to participate, there is still a lot of time!!

You're Better Than Ice Cream!!!

Hello and Happy Valentine's Day!! I hope you're all having (had) a great day with the people you love most. So far, I got to snuggle with my little girl. I love snuggling with her. No flowers or candy yet, but my hubby is not the kind of guy to diss his bride on Valentine's Day. I'm sure something special will happen before the day's end. I just have to be patient. I came up with a fun little gift for my husband, but I can't share it until he opens it first! Wouldn't that be terrible if he found out about his gift through a blog?

So, in honor of Valentine's Day, I am sharing a card I made for the Paper Crafts Magazine Stamp It! call. Unfortunately for me, it didn't get picked, but fortunately for you, I can share it with you right here and right now!

I call it "You're Greater Than Ice Cream." If you know me well, then you know this is the HUGEST compliment I can possibly give someone. Why? Because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ice cream, especially Graeter's Black Raspberry Chip. That is some good stuff, I tell ya. If you're ever in Columbus or Cincinnati, Ohio,  you gotta get it.

The alphabet stamps and ice cream cone are from Lawn Fawn. The hearts are an old set that I got from the dollar bin a long time ago. I drew the > sign.

Again, have a great Valentine's Day!
