Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness Blog Hop

Today is World Autism Day and Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness. It's a special day set aside to increase awareness of autism and show support for the community. More information about World Autism Day and Light It Up Blue can be found here.

Autism has not affected my family directly, but I do have a special needs child. I know first hand how challenging and yet rewarding parenting a child with unique needs can be. While I can't directly relate, I can certainly sympathize on some level.
So when Veronica Zalis and Tenia Nelson, two very talented card making bloggers, came up with the idea to host a blog hop in recognition of this day, I immediately jumped in and said "Add me to the list of participants!" Not only are Veronica and Tenia talented ladies (seriously, they are like rock stars in the card making world), they are also mothers of autistic children. I love how they are using their talents to spread good in the world.

I thought I would share a little about the thought process behind my card. The theme is Light It Up Blue and we were asked to make a blue card, but I wasn't sure how I was going to present the blue. I started thinking about lighting. I thought about rays, stars, spotlights, blue buildings ... None of it was clicking for me. Then, I came across a card and video using the bokeh technique. I had been wanting to try the technique for a while. Yay! I had a start.

I also wanted my card to be encouraging; something I would want to give to a person with autism to brighten his/her day. The In Every Way stamp set by Waffleflower Crafts was the "perfect" fit.  I finished off my card with some enamel dots and stars and some sparkly twine.

Tons of fantastic sponsors have shown their support for Autism Awareness and offered up prizes for this hop. If you would like a chance to win a prize from one of these fabulous companies leave a comment on this blog, and any of the other blogs participating in today's hop. Winners will be chosen at random and will be announced on Monday April 6. You can see the complete list here: http://lk2thestarz.blogspot.com/…/the-light-it-up-blue-for-….
