Making Up for Lost Time

Okay, I'm playing catch up!! I would have posted all my cards at once, but they are for different challenges, so they really need their own post.

I've entered this card into the Moxie Fab World sketch challenge. In celebration of Paper Crafts Magazine's recent publication "Card Ideas for Paper Crafters," Cath posted three sketches from the magazine and challenged us to make a card from them. I was lucky enough to win a copy by simply posting a comment on someone's blog. Yippee!! I can't wait to read it!! I chose the square card. Here is my card and below it is the sketch:

My Poor Neglected Blog!!

Wow!
I haven't updated this in a while!! I'm so sorry!! It has been a whirlwind of activity at my house. My son started kindergarten, which means I've been going to orientation meetings, shopping for school supplies and filling out paperwork galore!! I'm happy to report that Jack started school and is adjusting to the new routine.

Meanwhile, I've made a few back to school cards and a cute birthday card to share with you. Three are for the Moxie Fab World Felt Challenge and one is for one of their sketch challenges. Then, I have one I made for the heck of it.

Here are the felt challenge cards:

I made all the felt embellishments by hand. Felt is so easy to work with. I really enjoyed making these cards. I'll be posting the sketch challenge card next and then a card I made just for fun! Yes, you will get three posts in one day!! I'm making up for lost time!! Ha ha!

Happy Birthday John!!

I adore my husband. He is a wonderful provider, a fierce protector and a loving father, to name a few exceptional qualities. I am so blessed to have him in my life. I love him with all my heart. Today is his 47th birthday, or, as we've been saying, it's the 18th anniversary of his 29th birthday. We had a wonderful time celebrating the day God put him on this earth. (Thank you, Lord!)

After church, we went to brunch and then enjoyed playing with our kids at the park. When we arrived home, I let him take a nice long nap until dinner time. At dinner, I started a new tradition. I got this idea from Beth Moore at her conference this weekend. We went around the table and each named three things we love about John a.k.a. Daddy. By the time we were finished, his eyes welled up with tears of joy.

What's a birthday without cake and ice cream? And of course, you can't forget the birthday card!!

Here are some pics of his cake, his silly little self licking the icing off of the candle and the card I made for him. Happy Birthday, honey. You're the best!

Trigger Target: Luminous Layers

Wow! I had the most fantastic weekend!! I got a my hair done by my awesome friend, Tricia, who happens to be an excellent hairdresser. Then, I went to the Beth Moore conference Friday night and Saturday morning, followed by a luncheon at our church. It was an amazing experience. I have never seen anyone so on fire for God. Beth Moore is so inspiring and her zeal is contagious.  I really needed that. The worship, let by Travis Cottrell, was also amazing. God is so good!

Later that night, I had a hot date with my hubby, whose birthday is today!! We had a great relaxing Sunday enjoying our family. I will be posting his birthday card and some pics after this post!

Given that my weekend was so full, I really hadn't planned on entering the Trigger challenge at Moxie Fab World this week, but this evening after all the kids went to bed, an idea popped into my head. I decided to give it a try.

This week's trigger gave me an opportunity to use up some of those pesky scraps. I dug through my box and found paper that matched the layers of fabric in the inspiration dress (which, btw, I would totally wear if I had the figure for it.) I used my circle punch on them and then distressed them with brown chalk ink. I glued them on a strip of paper, carefully matching up the patterned paper to the fabric on the dress. I cut off all the edges. I really like how it turned out.

A Bigtop Birthday

I'm loving the new circus trend going on in card world right now. They are so fun and whimsical. I had to be a part of it.

I also needed to replenish my stash (or should I say stache) of birthday cards. Several members of my DH's family have birthdays in July and August. Needless to say, you'll be seeing a lot of birthday cards on blog until I catch up!!

I made this card with items I had purchased separately. It didn't occur to me how well they fit together until I started digging through my supplies. It was a stroke of serendipity. I love it when that happens!!

And then I had another stroke of serendipity! (Don't you love that word?) I checked out the Cards Magazine Create blog and discovered the recent challenge is to create birthday cards. Bonus!!

Here is my card:

Recipe:

Paper - Stampin' Up!
Stamps - My Cute Stamps, Stampin' Up
Ink - Memento
Die Cut - Cuttlebug

A Botanical Collage

Well, now that I'm back, I'm playing catch up! This is my second post and I plan to post one more card after this! Told ya' I was refreshed and inspired! Hee hee.

This card is for the the Moxie Fab World challenge Fanatical about Botanicals. Cath comes up with the neatest ideas. This one is to make a card using any kind of botanical image. More than 200 excellent card crafters are participating in this challenge. It's a long shot, but the point is to have fun, right? My card features flowers and a vegetable! Yep, I squeezed in two botanical images. What could be more fun than making a card with gorgeous botanicals!?!

How about making one inspired by Papercrafts Go To Gal Betsy Veldman!?! I received the latest copy of Papercrafts Magazine and saw her gorgeous collage card. I love her work. Her collage card served as the inspiration for this card.

Here is the card:

Cardstock - Stampin' Up, Echo Park
Flower sticker - Echo Park
Stamps - Clear Dollar Stamps, TPC Studio

Back From Vacation and Ready to Play!

Hi everyone! Did you miss me? I missed all of you out there in blogworld. I had a wonderful vacation with my family at Myrtle Beach. I love the beach. The sound of the ocean, the anticipation you get when a big wave is about to crash into you, the soft feeling of sand under your feet and the warm sun beaming on you. Ahhh ... wonderful. The beach is a great place to unwind and let the world inspire you. In fact, I came back with all sorts of inspiration and I can't wait to share it with you.

One idea that came to me while on vacation was this card below for the Moxie Fab World Trigger Target. I kept looking at the quilt. I noticed many participants were recreating all the pattern on the quilt. I wanted to do something a little different and it occurred to me "Why not focus your card on just one square instead of the entire pattern?" And that's just what I did. I used the colors of the quilt. Love the soft color palette. It reminds me of .... well, the beach!!

I die cut all the scalloped squares with my Silhouette machine. I simply created a white scalloped square then I used the inverted offset feature for the color squares, which gave the illusion of a nice white border in between the squares - kind of like the stitching on the quilt. For the center, I used a crocheted flower from Maya Road. The brad in the center is from the My Minds Eye Stella and Rose collection.

Here is the card:

Recipe:

Paper - Stampin Up' and DCWV
Flower - Maya Road
Brad - My Minds Eye
Stamps - Stampin' Up, Maya Road
Ink - Stampin' Up, Memento
