Gnerd!

Cath has done it again with another fun challenge at Moxie Fab World. It's the Spectacular Spectacles challenge where the goal is to create a paper project using spectacles in an innovative way.

This challenge is right up my alley. I love nerds. After all, I married one! Isn't he a cute nerd? This is my hubby on his birthday. He's a total techie who loves science fiction, not to mention those glasses. They are my inspiration!!

So, you see, I had to play in this challenge and I had to take the nerd angle. As luck would have it, a few weeks ago I went to a scrapbooking expo where I picked up some eyeglass shaped brads from the Eyelet Outlet. They were my starting point. Then, I had to figure out how to use them. I started thinking about sentiments. I actually Googled phrases with the words glasses, sight, vision, see, etc. I found a couple quotes, but nothing jumped out.

Next I started looking in my stash for ideas. As luck would have, the adorable gnome from Lawn Fawn was the perfect size for the eyeglasses. Score!

Then something amazing happened. I had an original idea. (Insert light bulb here). As I sat at my craft table looking at the gnome with his nerd glasses, it hit me - gnome + nerd = gnerd!! Ha ha ha!

Frosted Designs Card Sketch 17

Hiya everyone. Are you ready for the next Frosted Designs sketch? The new challenge starts today. Make a card using the sketch below for your chance to win some fun prizes.

Here is a card I made to help give you a little inspiration:

I did something for the first time. I sewed on a card! I have been wanting to do this for a long time, but quite frankly, I am too lazy! LOL! I have to get out my sewing machine, hook it up, prepare the thread, yadda, yadda, yadda ... I finally tried it and I love the results! I guess it's worth the effort.

 I was able to work in the Map Background stamp yet again. The more I use this stamp, the more I like it. The Map Background stamp is one of several new releases at Pink by Design. I stamped it in gold, brown and rust colored ink. The globe is a file I purchased from the Silhouette America store. I just love it. I cut four copies of the globe, stuck some glue down the middle of each piece, and then folded them inward to give it a three dimensional effect. Then I glued the bottom globe to the paper and added the stand.

The sentiment is also a Pink by Design stamp from their Birthday, Birthday set. I heat embossed it to make it stand out better against the kraft cardstock.  This would make a great card for a man.

Pink by Design Blog Hop

Tons of New Releases!!

The big day has finally arrived!! Pink by Design released several new stamps and we're celebrating with a blog hop today and a live Ustream event tonight!! New stamps, tons of inspiration and giveaways on a Friday night! Who's ready to par-tay!!

 Here is my project using stamps from two new sets - Map Background and My Favorite Kind (April Stamp of the Month). If you saw yesterday's post, you saw a little sneak of the Map Background. I intentionally made it a feminine card. Today, you get to see the same image used for a masculine/gender neutral cards.

In both cards, I used a technique called spotlighting by choosing a section of an image and highlighting it in a different color. There are so many fun little things to look at in this image. By "spotlighting" some of them, you can make them pop off the page. For example, in the second card, I chose to spotlight the compass by stamping it in red, punching it out and putting it in the exact same place as the bottom image. I used a foam dot to give it dimension and pop it out even more. I chose to spotlight the compass because I thought it went well with the sentiment, which is also a new release.

Pink by Design New Releases - Sneak Peek

Hi everyone. I am beside myself with excitement because Pink by Design is coming out with some super cute and trendy releases tomorrow. There are a lot. In fact, there's a little something for everybody, including sentiments, images and background stamps.

Meanwhile, I'm sneaking one of those background stamps today. I made this card using the new Map background stamp.  I had so much fun playing with it this week., The bike image and sentiment are also from Pink by Design, but were released previously. I wanted to show you how the new releases can also be used with stamps you may already own. 

You'll see the card is very feminine. That was intentional. Tomorrow I am posting a couple masculine cards using the Map background during the blog hop.

Pink Frosting

Hi everyone. This post isn't about pink frosting at all. If you look at my project, you'll see there is not much pink and absolutely no frosting on it. So why did I call this post Pink Frosting? Well, it's because I am posting one project for two design teams - Pink by Design and Frosted Designs. Put them together and what do you get? Pink Frosting! LOL!

The card below uses a sweet sentiment from Pink by Design. It is part of the Rain of Shine set. The "rainbow" is created with grossgrain ribbon. I cut off about two inches in each color, folded them in half and adhered them together with Ailene's Tacky Glue. Then, I tucked them under the blue cardstock, and adhered it onto the base of the card.  Believe it or not, I found the patterned paper at Tuesday Morning. A while ago, I happened upon a ton of crafting supplies for cheeeeeaaaap!! Score!!
